About Laser Hair Removal with CLEARSCAN Laser by Sciton
The CLEARSCAN laser selectively targets your hair follicles and heats them with infrared energy. Unlike other processes the laser beam treats many hairs at once, making treatment of large areas practical.
The CLEARSCAN employs a unique computer guided scanning system that automates the treatment, ensuring that your skin is rapidly and evenly treated. The computer sets the parameters and places the beam in an optimum pattern for your skin to ensure a safe, fast, effective and gentle treatment.
Safe for all skin types
The Profile CLEARSCAN laser by Sciton contains an infrared laser that can selectively target microstructures, such as hair follicles. It is very effective for lighter skin types, and because of the relatively low absorption of this light by melanin, it is also the best choice when treating darker skin types. Additionally, the ability to safely treat sun-tanned skin makes this the treatment of choice for active individuals.
All skin types I through VI can be treated. Skin Type I is very fair, always burns, never tans (usually blonde hair and blue eyes). Skin Type VI never burns (dark skin, dark hair and eyes).
Laser hair removal for tanned skin
We recommend that our patients not tan the area being treated for 2 weeks prior to laser hair removal at Arkansas Anti-Aging & Aesthetics. You must also avoid self-tanners for about 3 weeks. Tanned skin can be treated safely, but always inform our medical staff if you have been tanning, using tanning products, or exposed to the sun within the last three weeks. Our goal is to provide a safe and effective treatment.
Treatment of in-grown hair
The infrared energy delivered by CLEARSCAN can be used to remove all types of hair. Sometimes "shaving bumps" can cover a follicle, but the penetrating light of the CLEARSCAN can still be safely used.
About Laser Hair Removal Treatment
On the day of your laser hair removal treatment, plan on wearing clothing that will allow easy access to the area being treated. Laser hair removal works best when the hair is 1 to 2 millimeters in length.
It is important to shave the area to be treated within 24 hours before treatment. You should not pluck, wax, or use chemical depilatories. This will help to insure a good result. The area of your skin that is to be treated will be scanned with laser light from the CLEARSCAN system.
Laser hair removal treatment time will depend upon the area to be treated. A system for cooling your skin will be used to remove heat as it leaves the follicles and should ensure a comfortable treatment. Let our medical staff know if you are very sensitive.
Most laser hair removal patients describe laser hair removal as feeling "prickly," or like the snap of a rubber band against the skin. Afterwards, it might feel like a sunburn. Each patient has his or her own level of skin sensitivity and pain threshold. Different areas on the body are also more sensitive than others.
Post Laser Hair Removal Treatment
Normally, the area around the hair follicles looks red and swollen for up to 48 hours, possibly longer. Some redness may remain for approximately five to seven days. Occasionally, patients can develop a blistering reaction. If this happens, call your treating physician and ask for specific post-laser hair removal treatment options. Temporary pigmentation changes are possible but seldom occur. Always discuss your concerns with your physician prior to your treatment.
Repeat Laser Hair Removal Treatments
There are three phases of hair growth – anagen, catagen, and telogen. Only hairs in the active growth phase, anagen, can be successfully treated with laser hair removal technology. The average hair growth cycle is 6-8 weeks. Therefore, it is necessary to undergo a series of at least 6 treatments to obtain the desired result.
Generally, each laser treatment will be associated with some permanent hair loss. The number of treatments will depend on each patient's individual response to laser procedure and the amount of hair to be removed.
